If not for the discovery of the drumstick in a remote cave in the Andromeda Galaxy, today’s universe would be nearly silent.
Between the galactic years of 2021 and 5000, more music was produced than in the millennia preceding or following. To celebrate this milestone, a three-day festival was held to commemorate some of music’s greatest contributors:
Organized by the Intergalactic Beats Project, this was the completion of Phase 1 of their plan to collect and distribute music freely across the universe. On hundreds of intergalactic stages, thousands of bands played their tasty beats to the masses. Peace, love, and beats reigned supreme.
On July 6th, just weeks after the festival ended, Lord Prosect attacked every intergalactic radio station. He declared all music null and void, and banned the word beat from all languages. Millions went underground, or into orbit, trading what music they had left on the black market.
Listening to a single note was punishable by death.
The IBP quickly changed its organizational name to the Intergalactic Beets Project to avoid deletion, but the long road to recovering the universe’s music and its history (and changing every instance of beat to beet) would take time.
That, however, is where our story begins…
